The concept of agritourism, inviting guests to experience farming, and farm-themed events hosted at barn venues on working farms has long proven desirable. However, Hidden Oaks Farm of Lake Mary is truly unique in providing guests access to the following:
The rural characteristics of the farm is accentuated by an eighth of a mile private driveway that leads to our five-acre agricultural parcel. The entrance to the farm is aesthetically gated to functionally restrict access to livestock. Beyond the gate, the winding drive is canopied with majestic laurel oaks.
Hidden Oaks Farm of Lake Mary is a bona fide agricultural Katahdin hair sheep lambing and grazing operation. We provide care for a variety of animals including the following:
Globally, the vast majority of donkeys serve the primary purpose of transporting goods and people. However, the donkeys at Hidden Oaks Farm of Lake Mary serve as guardians of sheep, goats, and calves. Often the sheep or goats come to see the larger donkey as protective and will gather near it if they perceive a threat. Donkeys can protect against bear, panther, fox, coyotes, and roaming dogs. They are not only members of our family but also the providers of critical protection for our livestock.
The Rhode Island Red is an American breed of domestic chicken. This breed was developed in Rhode Island and Massachusetts in the late nineteenth century by cross-breeding birds of Oriental origin, such as the Malay, with brown Leghorn birds from Italy. It was a dual-purpose breed, raised both for meat and for eggs. Modern strains of this breed have been developed for its egg-laying abilities. The Rhode Island Red is the state bird of Rhode Island and the top choice of Hidden Oaks Farm of Lake Mary for egg production.
A visit to Hidden Oaks Farm of Lake Mary will reveal our staple of livestock, the Katahdin sheep. Katahdin sheep display many desirable economic traits. Studies of internal parasite tolerance indicate that Katahdin sheep possess a significantly higher degree of parasite resistance than wool sheep. These sheep demonstrate superior heat tolerance as well. Other traits of Katahdin sheep are being studied at research institutions including out-of-season breeding, prolificacy, and fertility factors as well as growth performance. These factors make Katahdin sheep a perfect fit for our farm.
The best way to experience all that Hidden Oaks Farm has to offer is to schedule a tour.
